Message from the NJ Poison Information & Education System
The New Jersey Poison Information and Education System, also known as the NJ Poison Center, responds to calls for help from residents who fear their exposure to a particular substance is poisonous. Most poisoning emergencies involve substances commonly found around the home: medicines (prescription, over-the-counter, or dietary/herbal), household cleaning supplies, and cosmetics. More than half of all reported poison exposures involve children under the age of six. Although the majority of nonfatal poisonings occur in young children, the majority of fatal poisonings (deaths) occur in adults. If you ever have a poison related concern, never hesitate to contact the NJ Poison Center at 1-800-222-1222. The center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
